The whole thing, in order, with the deadlines that actually bite.
Two items here have hard deadlines: HKID within 30 days of arrival (legal requirement) and university registration by your faculty's date. Everything else is sequencing. Work down this list and you will be settled before most of your cohort has found the good canteen.
The full first-month checklist
1. The Student Octopus application in the MTR Mobile app, which costs you around HK$4,000 a year in unclaimed discount if you skip it (and lapses every 31 October if you do not renew). 2. Notifying ImmD of an address change after moving out of temporary accommodation. 3. Registering with the consulate, which takes ten minutes and matters exactly once. 4. Photographing every receipt, contract, and existing scratch in a rented room. All four are trivial now and expensive later.
